PhD Plus - Strategies for Drafting a Compelling Conference Abstract: Recommendations, Tips, and How to Make it Resonate with the Program Committee

New Cabell Hall, Language Commons (Suite 298)

PhD Plus is excited to co-host a series of Research Presentation Workshops over the coming months in collaboration with the planning committees for the Diversifying Research Scholarship Conference, Hunter Research Student Conference (HRSC), Huskey Exhibition, and UVA Engineering Research Symposium (UVERS). This series is designed to support all graduate and undergraduate students who are planning to present at both on- and off-Grounds conferences in 2024, and includes sessions centered on 1) drafting abstracts for symposiums/conferences, 2) designing engaging presentations and posters, and 3) improving students’ oral and poster presentation skills.

The series begins on Thursday, Nov. 30, at 2:30 PM (hybrid session), with the first session "Strategies for Drafting a Compelling Conference Abstract: Recommendations, Tips, and How to Make it Resonate with the Program Committee." This session will be hosted in-person in the New Cabell Hall Language Commons (Suite 298), with an option to participate virtually via Zoom, and feature an in-depth conversation with an Executive Director for a nationwide professional society who will share tips and recommendations on how UVA students can draft a compelling abstract. Additionally, the session will include a brief overview of the submission requirements for student presenters and address some commonly asked questions.

All UVA students who are planning to present at a conference this year are strongly encouraged to register here by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 28, especially those submitting abstracts to the on-Grounds research conferences listed above.
