PhD+ Learn About Academic Publishing

This event is organized in partnership with the Department of Religious Studies at the University.  We encourage PhD students in humanities disciplines to attend.

Over lunch, Dr. Philip Goff will speak and answer questions about the world of publishing in academic journals. With decades of experience as a journal co-editor and countless journal articles of his own, Dr. Goff will share his expertise both on the process of getting published in academic journals and on the work of editing them.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Philip Goff is a professor of Religious Studies and American Studies at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, and has been the director of the Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture (RAAC) since 2000. In his capacity at RAAC, Goff has for two decades served as co-editor of the Religion and American Culture: A Journal of Interpretation, a biannual academic journal that is a staple of the American Religious History subfield. Goff’s research specialization is American religious history, with over 150 articles, reviews, and scholarly papers in that area. His recent books includes Themes in Religion and American Culture, The Columbia Documentary History of Religion in America Since 1945, and The Blackwell Companion to Religion in America. He is also completing a book on the history of religious radio, a biography of John Adams, and a co-authored textbook on American religious history.
