PhD+ Science Policy: The Future of A.I. in Medicine

Old Medical School Auditorium

Important Notice: The event is scheduled on November 12, 2019. Location: Old Medical School Auditorium

In this session, we will be having two speakers, Dr. Philip Bourne (Director of the Data Science Institute at UVA) and Dr. Arun Krishnaraj (Department of Radiology) coming to speak to us about the future of artificial intelligence in healthcare. These two presenters, one from the physician side, one from the research side, will explore the topic and its potential benefits, drawbacks, as well as how it could relate to healthcare and health policy.

Speakers

Dr. Philip Bourne: From 2014-2017, Phil was the Associate Director for Data Science at the National Institutes of Health. In this role he led the Big Data to Knowledge Program, coordinating access to and analyzing biomedical research from across the globe and making it available to scientists and researchers. While there, he was also responsible for governance and strategic planning activities for data and knowledge management, and established multiple trainings in data science. He has done exceptional work to make biomedical research accessible, as well as to advance the field of data science.

Dr. Arun Krishnaraj: Dr. Krishnaraj seeks to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of imaging and health care in the United States by leveraging his formal training in public health, clinical radiology, and informatics to maximize radiology’s value to society. The focus of his research is on patient-centered care, LEAN driven process improvement, the value of reporting, the role of artificial intelligence, the impact of social media in radiology, and the implications of evolving US health policy on the field of radiology.
