PhD+ Business in Society 3: Thinking Strategically

This is the third session of PhD Plus Business in Society: adding value with your PhD skills series

Critical to working in a business, or any organization, is learning to think strategically.  In this session, you will explore the meaning and importance of business strategy to an organization's competitive positioning and success. You'll learn about strategic analysis and SWOT, competitor, and environmental analysis tools. We will explore how to assess an industry's structure and how the competitive dynamics in an industry affect profitability. We will go into depth with the five forces tool, a common and highly influential analytical framework.

This sessions involves asynchronous online material with Michael Lenox and Jared Harris  and in-person discussion with Sonali Majumdar

Assignment

  1. watch the videos of online material with Michael Lenox and Jared Harris and complete the online assessments 
  2. participate in group discussion with Sonali Majumdar on February 9
