A&S Learning Design and Technologies: Digital Pedagogy Internship 2022-23

ORGANIZATION 

The Learning Design & Technology team (LDT) is a faculty support group for the College of Arts & Sciences created to collaborate with and support faculty as they explore how to incorporate innovative pedagogies and instructional technologies into their courses.

PURPOSE 

Through the A&S LDT Digital Pedagogy internship, PhD candidates work closely with instructional designers and technologists to facilitate effective, innovative teaching & learning in Arts & Sciences (A&S). Interns will gain familiarity with the pedagogies and learning tools that inform the work of instructional design and faculty support, and will explore the processes involved in facilitating instructional innovation. Through collaborations across the LDT team, the Digital Pedagogy intern will also gain a deeper understanding of administrative systems and educational program development in higher education

RESPONSIBILITIES 

During the internship, Digital Pedagogy interns will be expected to explore teaching and learning issues relevant to their own professional interests. Former Digital Pedagogy interns have contributed to teaching and learning in A&S by running instructional workshops on a variety of tools, consulting directly with faculty, creating infographics, supporting ePortfolio pedagogies, training undergraduate student assistants, researching inclusive digital pedagogies, surveying faculty, providing outreach to A&S departments, creating sample UVA Collab sites, and much more. 

Digital Pedagogy may work closely with LDT team members to:  

  • Support select teaching & learning tools commonly used in A&S  
  • Consult directly with faculty about teaching, learning and technology challenges  
  • Explore and offer feedback on emerging teaching & learning tools  
  • Design and offer workshops  
  • Develop faculty-facing resources to respond to pressing teaching and learning needs  
  • Facilitate communications with departments 

MENTORING PLAN 

Interns will be mentored by the senior instructional designers and the director of LDT. Interns will start the year partnered with another team member and gradually work more independently as their experience develops.

DURATION AND EFFORT 

The internship will begin in Fall 2022 and continue into Spring 2023. 

FUNDING 

PhD+ interns will be paid bi-weekly wages up to $5000 per semester ($25 per hour for 200 hours per semester).
