ORGANIZATION
A&S Learning Design & Technology: The Learning Design & Technology team (LDT) is a faculty support group for the College of Arts & Sciences created to collaborate with and support faculty as they explore how to incorporate innovative pedagogies and instructional technologies into their courses.

PURPOSE
Digital Pedagogy Interns facilitate effective, innovative teaching & learning in Arts & Sciences (A&S). Through the Digital Pedagogy internship, PhD candidates work closely with instructional designers and technologists to gain familiarity with innovative pedagogies and learning tools. Interns apply this knowledge to support faculty in exploring and applying new pedagogies and technologies in their teaching. Interns will gain experience in consulting, training and program development in higher education, with opportunities to explore Digital Pedagogy as it applies to their own teaching and research interests.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT
This internship will prepare intern for careers in any of the following:
- Faculty
- Communication, Outreach, and Publishing
- Non-profit
- Teaching
- Consulting
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
This internship will provide experiences to develop and polish the following skills:
- Communication to diverse audiences
- Interdisciplinary team collaboration
- Thought leadership and innovation
- Problem-solving
- Teaching, mentoring and training
- Project management and leadership
RESPONSIBILITIES
Interns will work closely with LDT team members to:
- consult directly with faculty about teaching, learning and technology challenges
- design and offer workshops
- develop faculty-facing resources to respond to pressing teaching and learning needs
- facilitate communications with departments
- explore Digital Pedagogy as it relates to interns' teaching and research interests
Former Digital Pedagogy interns have contributed to teaching and learning in A&S by running instructional workshops on a variety of tools, consulting directly with faculty, writing blog posts, creating infographics, researching inclusive digital pedagogies, surveying faculty, providing outreach to A&S departments, creating sample UVA Collab sites, and much more.
MENTORING PLAN
Interns will be mentored by the senior instructional designers and the director of LDT. Interns will start the year partnered with another team member and gradually work more independently as their experience develops.

Duration and Effort
The internship will commence in Fall 2021 and continue through Spring 2022, and will require 10 hours per week.
Funding
This internship is funded by the LDT up to $5000 per semester.
