Who are we as researchers? The role of identity in communicating research

UVA Women's Center located in the Corner Building

The Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs in collaboration with the UVA Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center are hosting an ideation conversation on the role of identity in communicating research. We invite faculty and graduate students with an interest to join us on Tuesday, December 4 from 8:30AM to 10:00AM at the UVA Women’s Center in the Corner Building. Fruit, bagels, and coffee will be available. Please RSVP to Marlit Hayslett at [email protected] if you would like to participate.

Types of questions we would like to explore:

  •  How do we define identity for the purposes of our discussion?
  • When communicating research to a non-specialist audience such as policymakers, the media or the general public, what is the role of identity?
  • How  does one’s identity shape her or his approach to communicating research?
  • How does the audience’s identity journey impact their ability to receive the speaker’s ideas?
