Success of design-led companies such as Apple, Coca-Cola, IBM, Nike, among others have led to application of Design thinking approaches in strategy and innovation, and workforce management across different sectors. In two consecutive sessions of Foundations series, learn creative problem-solving and building tangible deliverables from abstract concepts from design experts and Faculty members in School of Architecture.
In this session, you will utilize strategies learned in previous session to solve a design challenge, and learn about visualization tools to communicate your concept design. For a holistic experience, this sessions will likely be hosted in School of Architecture at Campbell Hall that includes a short tour of the design studios – the room where it happens.

Professor Comazzi joined the faculty in the School of Architecture at the University of Virginia in the Fall of 2017 as the Director of the Design Thinking Concentration. As part of the University's Cluster Hiring Initiative, Professor Comazzi has partial appointments in the School of Nursing and the Curry School of Education where he collaborates on interdisciplinary teaching, research, and curriculum development.
Anselmo Canfora- Associate Dean for Academics and Associate Professor, School of Architecture
Professor Canfora founded Initiative reCOVER at the University of Virginia in 2007. Initiative reCOVER is a research project established to assist underserved populations through partnerships with humanitarian, community-based organizations, professional firms, and manufacturers. In the classroom and in the field reCOVER promotes a collaborative entrepreneurial interdisciplinary spirit in service of hands-on, design-build learning experiences, and the advancement of building technologies, methods, and materials. From his introductory architecture design studios to working with professional companies on advanced digitally fabricated design/build projects, he integrates abstract processes of conceptualization with tangible acts of making.
