https://virginia.zoom.us/j/6400847979?pwd=M093dGc4YTBrbTVZMG9ibDJVT0pGUT09

If you find yourself wondering how to leverage your scientific training to solve overarching global problems facing society, or are curious about careers in data science for the public good, please attend this virtual session.

Do you want to work on the hardest problems no one else has been able to solve? Do you want to solve problems no one else wants to solve, maybe because there is no profit in it or it is a politically sensitive topic? Do you want to look at what technologies are coming down the pipeline in the next 5, 10, 20 years and prepare the nation for those technologies? Do you want to work for a not-for-profit that spans the world working “in the public good”? If so, you should join the MITRE. Our hiring needs range across a range of disciplines to include, but not limited to: data science, AI/ML, modeling and simulation, gamification, software engineering, systems engineering, bioinformatics, cyber, and so on.

MITRE is an incredible place to work with some of the smartest and most dedicated to the public good people you will meet. People come to MITRE and spend their entire careers here. We have a matrix work structure that lets you work multiple projects at any given time and you get to pretty much set your career path. We offer excellent work/life balance, paid continuing education from day one, and DC competitive salaries. Our team in Charlottesville has grown 50% in the last two years and we are looking to grow another 33% this year. It is a fun place to work with projects recognized in National Geographic documentaries, the Economist, WIRED, and the New York Times to just name a few. Come join our team.

Speaker

Dr. Michael A. Balazs serves as the Head of MITRE’s Charlottesville Operations. In this role, he ensures the success of the site’s staff and delivery of its work program, which supports a dozen government agencies. He created and leads the Generation AI Initiative and also co-coordinates a portfolio of small Unmanned Aerial System (sUAS) programs in support of the intelligence, and special operations communities, as well as the Marine Corps and DHS.

Dr. Balazs’s work has resulted in numerous awards and has been featured in the Economist, WIRED Magazine, Fortune, National Geographic’s Breakthroughs, and at the SPIE Defense, Sensing, and Security Conference.

Prior to coming to MITRE, Dr. Balazs completed his Ph.D. in High-Energy Particle Physics at the University of Virginia in 2011. During this time, he worked at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland, where he helped design and build portions of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector and searched for experimental evidence of dark matter and the Higgs boson. He is currently pursuing a second academic path as he works toward his MS and Ph.D. in Computer Science through the University of Illinois - Urbana Champagne.
