Women's Center Engaged Scholarship Internship

ORGANIZATION

MENTOR

Nsofwa Chanda, Co-Interim Director and Assistant Director of Engaged Scholarship (ADES)

PURPOSE 

Interns will learn office management, connecting with internal and external organizations to help fulfill an organization's mission. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

The intern working with the ADES will learn supervision skills in working with undergraduates and program management

CAREER DEVELOPMENT 

This internship will prepare interns for careers in any of the following: 

  • Academic Research and Administration
  • Consulting 
  • Non-profit 
  • DEI 

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT 

This internship will provide experiences to develop and polish the following skills: 

  • Communication to diverse audiences 
  • Interdisciplinary team collaboration 
  • Knowledge of sector and networking 
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking 
  • Project management and leadership 
  • Thought leadership and innovation 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The intern in this position will:  

  • Co-lead a team of Engaged Scholarship interns in providing programming for students
  • Manage logistics of undergraduate internship program (recruitment, applications and acceptance/rejection)
  • Black Womanhood in College Workshop (BWCW)program
  • Annual Holiday Market 
  • Senior interns meeting assistant 

MENTORING PLAN 

Generally we mentor our graduate students with weekly supervision meetings, informal check-ins, providing resources and financially supporting many professional development opportunities as our funds allow. We focus on giving them opportunities to see the workings of the Women's Center and differing aspects of building relationships across Grounds as well as off-Grounds. This is evident in our last two interns we worked with from Ph.D.+

DESIRED QUALITIES 

The Maxine Platzer Lynn Women’s Center seeks applicants with the following qualities and skills: 

  • Working knowledge of Canva is ideal but not required
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Ability to work with others
