Contemplative Sciences Center Internship

The mission of the Contemplative Sciences Center (CSC) is to advance the study and application of human flourishing at all levels of education—K-12, undergraduate, graduate, professional, and lifelong. In particular we are focused on how educational institutions can better understand and facilitate the types of knowledge, mindsets, and practices that promote flourishing.

ORGANIZATION

The CSC seeks to combine contemplation, connection, and research to enhance flourishing. We pursue this through a variety of programs and initiatives in academic classrooms, residential life, research, scholarship, and social innovation.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT

This internship will prepare interns for careers in any of the following: 

  • Academic Research and Administration
  • Communication, Outreach, and Publishing

This internship will provide experiences to develop and polish the following skills:

MENTORING PLAN

The student will be receive mentoring and supervisions by Michael Sheehy, Director of Research at the Contemplative Sciences Center. The intern will participate in weekly team meetings, work closely with the journal staff and fellow students, and work one-on-one with Prof. Sheehy. The intern will have the opportunity to build relationships and professional networks with a variety of authors and editors from across disciplines that has enduring value.

LEARNING OUTCOMES          

  • Learn now to copy edit and format academic articles
  • Develop skills in program management, specifically publication pipeline management
  • Develop writing and editing skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

The internship will require that the intern work in a collaborative environment and be responsive to a variety of tasks as needed. Primary responsibilities of the intern include copy editing and formatting article and book review submissions for digital publication. Secondary responsibilities may include communication with scholar collaborators (authors, editors, reviewers, advisors), assistance with the management of publication pipeline in digital platform for journal articles.
