PhD+ Foundations 7: Effective Communication

Commonwealth Room, Newcomb Hall

This is the seventh session of the PhD+ Fall 2021 Foundations series.

“Communication” is consistently listed among the top skills businesses want in their employees. We all communicate – what makes communication in a professional setting distinct? In this session, we will explore specific communication methods along with when, and when not to, use them. We will practice specific scenarios in which your communication needs to be thoughtful and prepared as well as possible (e.g. submitting a request, running a meeting, providing advice to a colleague, etc.). If you have ever had a miscommunication, this session can help you think about what you might have done differently to achieve a better outcome.
